1 Timothy 3:8-13 How over What

1 Timothy 3:8-13 teaches us about deacons. A deacon is someone called to specific service in the church.  Interestingly, the passage does not point out what deacons are to do, but describes how they are to go about doing it. Pastor Chris Garrison calls us to live like servants, just as Jesus did and to remember that how we live is more important than what we are doing.

1 Timothy 3:4-7 A Noble Task

1 Timothy 3:4-7 addresses those who are leaders in the church. What does leadership in a church look like?  Pastor Chris Garrison shows how Paul describes the character and life of those shepherding  the church; a life that is distinguished by righteous activity and attitudes. We are to recognize that not only the elders, but all of us need to live lives that point to Christ in all things.

1 Timothy 2:1-6 Jesus Christ, Savior of ALL

In 1 Timothy 2:1-6 Paul tells us that Jesus wants all people to be saved. His purpose calls us to gain a love and passion for the perishing. He is faithful in shaping the church to be like Him.

1 Timothy 2:11-15 Distinctively Designed

Pastor Chris Garrison continues the series from 2 Timothy with the culturally charged issue of gender roles in the church. God created us male and female in order to complement each other. We are distinctively designed to glorify God.r to glorify Him. 1 Timothy 2:11-15 addresses a problem in the church in Ephesus surrounding the women's attitudes. Paul talks about an attitude of quiet that is necessary in order to take in the truth that will cause true spiritual formation. This call to have an attitude toward learning applies to all in the church, male and female. The lesson to learn is this: be Godly, pursue the Lord, find your value in Christ.

1 Timothy 1:3-20: Fascinating

This is the second sermon on the first letter of Paul to Timothy. Paul is writing to Timothy in Ephesus where there are problems with the church there because it was not guarding the gospel of Jesus against the chatter and talk among the people. As Christians, our main purpose, our charge, is to guard the gospel. We don't do this by shutting it up or speaking it in Greek or Christian terms. We do it by making it the center of our lives.

1 Timothy: An Introduction

This is the first sermon in a new series Pastor Chris Garrison is preaching on the Epistle from the Apostle Paul to Timothy. In 1 Timothy 1:1-2 we learn the context of the relationship between Paul and Timothy. Paul is commending Timothy as he is being sent out to spread the gospel. This is a book of the Bible that matters today. We, as Christians, are saved to serve. 1 Timothy tells us how to be a healthy church that is continually being shaped into the image of God in order to serve each other.

Nehemiah: Failing Forwarde

Pastor Chris Garrison finishes the sermon series on Nehemiah. In Nehemiah 13 we see that just when it seemed like Jerusalem was coming together, Nehemiah returns it find it falling apart. He found the people demonstration failures in many of the areas he set in place. But unlike Jerusalem, we don't need a temple, or a wall, or a select group of people. We need something bigger. Clinging to the cross if the only way to conquer our failure and turn it into and opportunity to move forward.

Nehemiah: Opportunity is Calling

In this sermon from Nehemiah 11:1-36, Pastor Chris Garrison talks about the opportunity of a lifetime that awaits us when we answer God's call to serve in His Kingdom. As we give God exclusive right of way to our lives, we will have the opportunity to deepen our relationship with God when we stand in His strength as He empowers us to work for His good pleasure.

Nehemiah: Responding to God According to His Word

Pastor Chris Garrison continues teaching from the Book of Nehemiah. In Nehemiah 10:38-39 we find that there are patterns, or rhythms, to the required sacrificial rituals of the people in Jerusalem. Is your life of worship a dirge of duty, or is it a dance of devotion? When we respond to the rhythm of God's faithful work, He can change the rhythms in our life: our relationships, our finances, our worship.

Advent: The Gift of Adoption

In this fourth week of Advent, Pastor Chris Garrison's sermon is about God's Gift of Adoption. 1 John 3:1 says we are called children of God. He has chosen us! We are invited into a relationship that is founded on God's unconditional and unwavering love for his children. Where there is God...where there is Jesus...there is FAMILY!
